New Roads and Streetworks (NRSWA) courses enable both operatives and supervisors to carry out works to the standards of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991. This requires anyone who works on the highways to be qualified for the job being carried out.

NRSWA UNIT 1 – CABLE AVOIDANCE TRAINING
This course covers cable avoidance training (CAT and Genny training), teaches individuals how to avoid underground cables and pipes whilst excavating roads and pavements.
During this course you will gain knowledge and understanding in:
- The safety and financial reasons for using locators
- Theory work which covers the benefits of the system and the limitations of the CAT and Genny technology
- HSE Video – Alive or dead
- Practical work which includes hands on locating using receiver, transmitter and accessories
- Application and techniques, general care and maintenance of equipment as well as questions / answers
This course is for new roads and street work operatives who locate underground apparatus, set up equipment for works on highways and carry out excavation, backfill and reinstatement.
A good understanding of spoken and written English.
A mixture of classroom based teaching and group exercises with continuous oral and practical assessments.
The Street Works Qualifications Register Card valid for 5 years.
